A history of the Marais, Paris, France.

Posted in Travel Parlor on April 30th, 2008

In the center of Paris is a charming area called the Marais.
After the big sights such as the Eiffel Tower, it is one of the
most popular area visited by tourists due to it’s narrow
streets, old buildings and variety of shops, boutiques and bars.
However, even despite the tourism, it has managed to fight off
the forces of commercialism and is still a favorite area of the
Parisiens.

The word Marais means ’swamp’ in French, and indeed originally
the Marais area was a swamp. In the tenth century, while the
city only occupied the islands on the Seine, the swamp was
drained and reclaimed to extend the borders. However, it was
another four hundred years before the area began to truly
flourish when grand buildings such as the royal hotel des
Tournelles and the hotel Saint-Pol were built (hotel in this
sense doesn’t mean guests and mini-bars, but grand buildings
built by the aristocracy). For another two hundred years the
Marais continued to be an area of grandeur with beautiful areas
such as the place des Vosges.

This period was not to last forever, and by the 18th century
the Marais was neglected. The area had become a slum and a
jewish ghetto, spurned by the rest of the city. However, the
poor state of the Marais was ultimately to become it’s savior,
when at the end of the 19th century Baron Haussmann started one
of the greatest urban reconstruction projects ever seen in the
world. Ironically it was not the reconstruction that created the
Marais as we see today, but the lack of it in that area.
Haussmann felt that the Marais wasn’t worthy of reconstruction,
and the slum was left untouched while the rest of Paris was
transformed with broad boulevards and grand buildings. As the
rest of Paris flourished in grandeur, eyes gradually turned to
the Marais as prime real estate. Fortunately, a man called Le
Corbusier recognized the beauty of the ancient buildings, and
decrees were made to prevent the demolition of the Marais and
other old areas of the city.

It took a long time for the Marais to truly reach it’s present
beauty. Even mid-20th century areas such as the Place des Vosges
had a grim and neglected appearance. However, after the war and
protected even further in the 1960’s by French law, the Marais
has become a highly desired area. The buildings are now clean
and well kept, magnificently glorious in all their ancient
splendor.

Trying to Define Criminal Law

Posted in Legal Counsel Resources on April 30th, 2008

We hear about law everyday whether we realize it or not. It’s in our Government, in our work, and even in our houses. One type of law is Criminal law, which is also known as Penal law. This is “The body of statutory and common law that deals with crime and the legal punishment of criminal offenses.”

Inside of criminal law there is four major theories of criminal justice:

- Punishment

- Deterrence

- Incapacitation

- Rehabilitation

This form of law is essential in many cases because it can distinguis between crimes from civil wrongs. Criminal law has been around for ages, and is seeing as the fundamental system of regulating the behavior of individuals and groups relatively to what is defined as the social norms. This differs between civil crimes, where the difference is between two individuals and their individual rights and obligations under the law which is ruling the entire society.

An example of a civil law case is a dispute between two individuals over a contract that they made to for example sell an automobile. In that case one individual feels that their individual rights for a fair automobile sale have been breached by the other party. Where as in a criminal case, you would have for example a murderer, who is infringing on the right of safety that we all have. Given those two examples I’m sure you can appreciate how important Criminal law is, and the important role that it plays in everyone of our societies.

Feel free to reprint this article as long as you keep the article, this caption and author biography in tact with all hyperlinks.

12 Volt LED Rope Lights Are Perfect For All Kinds Of Projects

Posted in Better Technology on April 29th, 2008

Whether you just want to decorate for the holidays or light up a
car, boat or truck with some neat accent lights, 12 volt led
rope light strings might be in order. Providing versatility for
a number of projects while offering some long-term cost-saving
incentives, these lights are more than worth considering for
personal or professional use. LED rope lights are different than
your average bulb. Operating on a low voltage, the rope lights
are more pliable and are easy to shape, allowing for some
spectacular displays in the right hands. LED rope lights are
simply light emitting diodes that are generally quite flexible.
They operate using a small amount of electricity and can be
installed on vehicles, in homes or at businesses.

Uses for 12 volt LED rope lights are many and pretty much are
only limited by imagination. Coming in a variety of colors,
these lights are becoming popular for holiday decorations and
even for decorating businesses for a reason. Rather than having
to decorate the outside of a house or business with a giant
string of bulbs that might go out if a single one burns up, the
LED rope lights are easy to work with and easy to install.
What’s better is they have a life span that can go 10 years or
so, plus they are well-protected from the elements in their
flexible case.

Some of the advantages of using rope lights to illuminate a
room, home or even car include: Wide variety of colors
available. ? Shaping possibilities due to the flexible nature of
the casing and lights. ? They are very hard to break and are
quite durable. ? They last for years. ? They don’t “burn out,”
they fade away. That’s right. LEDs dim before going out
completely, so an intensive holiday design doesn’t necessarily
have to be lost if the lights start to go on the blink. ? They
don’t burn as hot as regular bulbs. This is great for rooms
where little hands might reach out to touch the lights.

The popularity of LED rope lights is becoming evident on cars,
boats and RVs at night where they are used to add accents and to
make the vehicles more noticeable to other traffic. They are
also widely used in decorating schemes for their stability and
versatility. Simple and easy to use, LED rope lights beat
stringing up regular lights hands down. Plus, for those who
aren’t that creative or don’t want to hassle with creating
designs, many companies offer LED rope lights pre-made into a
variety of designer shapes. From palm trees to Christmas trees,
those searching for decorations might find exactly what they’re
looking for in rope lights pre-designed for decorative purposes.

Those looking to buy rope lights to install themselves will find
a number of companies willing to help get the job done.
Typically, the lights come with everything needed to install
lights in homes, on vehicles and more. There are even
specialized controllers for intensive scenes.

If saving money and having great design options are important
considerations, 12 volt LED rope lights are worth considering
for any type of project that needs lighting.

How do instant payday loans work?

Posted in Financing on April 29th, 2008

Instant payday loans are short-term loans that are useful to
individuals who are in need of liquidity between paydays. The
process of acquiring a payday loan is simple; a job and an
active checking account are the only requirements that need to
be fulfilled in order to qualify for an instant payday loan.

Most loan companies support online transactions; upon approval
of an online application, the loan amount is deposited into the
receiver’s checking account. The facility of online transactions
enables borrowers to apply anytime and access the money as well
as return it with minimum fuss. A repayment plan is worked out
at the time of applying for the loan. Usually, the loans are due
next payday but the period of loan can be extended by paying
extra fees. Instant payday loans of up to $ 1,000 can be availed
subject to the applicant’s monthly income and the laws of the
state.

The fees involved include transaction fees and interest. Since
instant payday loans do not require a credit check or an
extensive background check and are available to everybody,
including those with bad credit, the interest rates are
relatively higher. Sometimes, instead of interest, lenders may
charge a flat fee either by the day or for a fixed period. The
average cost per $ 100 of the loan amount may be in the range of
$ 15 to $ 20.

Lending companies are required by federal law to post an annual
APR consisting of the transaction costs as well as interest
rates. The borrower can use the APR to compare the rates offered
by payday companies. Online instant payday loan providers can be
checked and approached without having to leave home. Several
online lenders offer loans at reduced rates or with zero
transaction fees for first-time borrowers.

Instant payday loans are easier to get than personal loans and
their quick turnaround time makes them an attractive alternative
for those in urgent need of cash.

Instant payday loans do not affect the credit score of an
individual if the loans are repaid on time; multiple open
accounts and use of credit can affect the credit score while
using credit cards or availing personal loans.

The process of acquiring an instant payday loan involves the
signing of a loan agreement by the lender and the borrower. The
agreement contains the terms and conditions of the loan, contact
information of both parties, fees for bounced checks and late
repayment, and any obligations that are binding on either party.

Non-payment of an instant payday loan does not lead to arrest
but may result in a case in a civil court, which may lead to a
borrower’s assets being placed on lien to recover the loaned
amount and court costs.

Borrowers need to be alert to the possibility of falling into a
debt cycle, since with instant payday loans this can be a very
expensive proposition. It is advisable to take recourse to
instant payday loans only if long-term loans are no longer an
alternative.

Butterflies Help Your Posture

Posted in Shopping + More on April 29th, 2008

“Butterflies” strengthen your upper body and help improve your posture

They work almost every muscle in your upper body, especially back and chest muscles. In addition , the Butterfly strengthens arms and shoulders.

As we get older we tend to slump with our shoulders moving forward. Sit for a moment and let your shoulders move forward as when you are very tired. They will be rounded and pushed forward.

Can you visualize how the muscles in your chest can become shorter and tighter when you sit like this? Now pull your shoulders back and pretend you are trying to make your shoulder blades touch behind your back. Feel how the chest muscles are stretched and lengthened. You cannot maintain good posture when your shoulders are slumped forward–that’s why we need to work on strengthening the upper back–to make the muscles strong enough to be able to hold your shoulders back.

In addition, when you slump forward your internal organs are crowded–no wonder we begin to have health problems–organs like your liver and pancreas are so crowded they do not have room to function correctly. Lungs also suffer from not having enough space to properly inflate.

Let’s begin:

Sit on a straight chair, near the front edge of the chair. This is to allow room to bring your elbows behind your body. Sit up straight, feet flat on the floor, shoulders back.

Hold a dumbbell in each hand. For beginning women, 3 or 5 pounds; for men, 5 or 8 pounds. The weights are held in front of your chest in an upright vertical position, close to your chest.

Ready? Lift the weights straight up in front of your body as high as you can. Your arms should be extended to their full length over your head.

Now lower the weights back down to the original position. Pull the weights around your body by pulling your shoulders back and attempting to make your shoulder blades touch behind your body. Obviously nobody can actually make their shoulder blades touch, but we pretend we can in order to create the stretch across our chests. Feel the stretch.

Now return the weights to the original position n front of your body.
Pay attention to the muscles in your upper body. You should be able to feel all of them working as you do this exercise.

Repeat for a total of 8 to 10 repetitions.

1, 2, 3! The Numbers Are The Key.

Posted in Net Commerce on April 28th, 2008

Okay, there are some variables in this internet or network
marketing world. If I am meeting people face-to=face, it helps
to have brushed my teeth, to have bathed, to have put on some
decent looking clothes, etc. If I neglect these things, my sales
WILL suffer to some extent. Online, if my website has links that
don’t work, or if it looks like it was designed by my 10
year-old son, my sales might suffer. I think, however, that most
of us understand that side of the equation.

I think that MOST people (not all, I am sure) realize that
presenting most products or services to untargeted audiences can
also lower successes.

However, I am going to talk about some generalities here, and I
am going to assume that I am trying to sell something that has
SOME value to SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE. To tell the truth, I could be
talking about trying to sell a rock from my backyard. Got to be
careful there. My neighbor’s horses get into the pasture from
time to time, and I would have to make sure I actually had a
rock! Come to think of it, there IS a market for horse manure.
See, you CAN sell almost anything.

Anyway, see if you can get this concept.

I have something of value to sell, and I offer it to one person.
Then I go home and assess my success. How do you think I did?
Did I sell it?

That’s right. Probably not.

Okay, so now I go out and offer it to two people and then go
home. How did I do this time?

Hard to say, but you can see that I had a slightly better chance.

Let’s try this one.

I buy a billboard ad on a major interstate, and 80,000 people a
day see my ad. What are my chances now?

Things are looking up, right? I actually have a chance of making
a few sales.

Leaving aside the variables, such as how good the sign was, did
the people in the cars have a chance to read the sign, etc.,
what was the key factor in improving my success?

That’s right! It was the number of people who had a chance to
see my ad.

So now I have this great web site with a fantastic product or
business opportunity. What am I looking for?

That’s right. I want traffic! Lots of traffic. In fact, leaving
out the variables again, the more people I can get to visit my
web site, the better my chances of making sales.

Years ago, a major financial services provider conducted an
in-depth study of their most successful sales people. Their
findings are not surprising. The most successful sales people,
the people who earned the highest amount of commissions, simply
talked to the most people.

Many people who join internet marketing or network marketing
ventures are looking for the great “get rich quick” plan that is
going to make them millions. Note the use of the words “make
them millions”. They are often of the opinion that the program
is going to make the money for them. After a few swings at
making sales, they give up and quit, thinking that network
marketing, and these days, internet marketing, is a bunch
of…well, you know…what my neighbor’s horses leave in my
pasture. They go their ways convinced that they’ve been had,
taken for a ride. In their minds, all marketers…network,
internet, or both…are con artists.

Two perfectly honest friends of mine who became millionaires in
different network marketing companies used a very simple
technique to achieve success. They each handed out brochures
over a couple of years to everyone they met until one day the
dam broke, so to speak.

When I started marketing on the internet, I had no clue what I
was doing, or how to get traffic, but I knew I had a product
that a lot of people would be interested in. I figured out that
with my lack of skill and knowledge I could only hope to make a
few sales from any web site I could come up with. In fact, I
only used free hosting services.

My tactic was simple. If I could only get a few sales from any
website, I would make a lot of web sites that each made a few
sales. A couple of years later, I was making over $20,000 a year
on the internet, using these dinky little free sites for the
most part. In the meantime, I had learned a few more advanced
techniques, and as I began to improve my websites and get my own
domains (financed by my free sites), my income grew to over
$100,000 a year and continues to grow.

Even with the new domains, the free sites continue to bring in
traffic and income, and the simple equation remains. The more
people that I can put my sites in front of, the more money I
make.

That’s why I say, “1, 2, 3, the numbers are the key”.

Low Rate Credit Cards - Choosing the Best Card

Posted in Maths on April 27th, 2008

Teaser rates offered on low rate credit cards are a boon to customers. Low APR credit cards are an ideal choice for customers who carry a steady monthly balance. With so many options, finding the right low APR credit card suited to your lifestyle could be a challenge. Yet, it is worth the effort because, over the years, the cost of carrying a balance at a high interest rate could outweigh the other benefits associated with the card.

Shopping for a low APR credit card implies comparing credit offers not just on the interest rate offered but also on various other parameters. Most of these low rate credit cards require you to have a good or excellent credit rating to qualify for their lowest rate. However, a decent credit rating will fetch the card at a slightly higher rate.

The best way to start shopping for a new low APR credit card is to compare costs, terms, and conditions with the cards you already possess. Before switching to another low rate credit card, you should ask your current card company to lower the existing APR. If that is not possible, then choose a card that would fit best with your spending and repayment habits.

Factors to Consider while choosing the Low APR Credit Card:

1) Different rates for different services offered on the same card - low APR credit cards may have differential interest rates for the variety of services offered on the card. For example, the interest rate for cash advances could be 20% but the interest rate for purchases could be 9% and balance transfers could be at 0%! It is important to determine the primary use of the card
and then decide on the card that offers the lowest rate for the service that you need.

2) Variable versus Fixed Rate - The interest offered on low APR credit cards could be variable or fixed. Fixed rates tend to be low and are advisable for customers who carry a steady balance. A small change in the APR rate could make a big difference if you carry a balance on a card month on month.

3) Differential Rates for Different Balances on the Same Card - Certain low APR credit cards offer very low interest rate on certain balance amount and charge hefty interest if you cross that range. An interest rate of 9% could be applied on a balance of $500 but if your balance goes to $900, the rate might increase to 15%, for example

4) Low Interest for a Pre-Determined Time - The low interest offered could be an introductory offer or for a limited time period. This is risky, as you may have to pay heavy interest charges if you carry a substantial balance at the end of the said period.

5) Cash Back Options - Many low APR credit cards offer a certain percentage as cash back to you depending on the purchase type. The cash back percentage may be 1% or 5% and could be available on a wide variety of purchase items.

6) Balance Transfers - If you have multiple credit cards and need to consolidate, low rate credit cards offer a good option. Certain cards allow 0% APR on balance transfers with no transfer fees. Since this could greatly help in reducing debt and substantial savings in interest, it is worthwhile to evaluate the different interest rates offered.

7) Air Miles or Frequent Flyer Miles - Some low APR credit cards offer conversion of accumulated reward points to air miles to encourage customer spending. It is not a bad idea to benefit both from the low interest APR along with free air miles.

8) Grace Period (Interest Free Period) - Many low rate credit cards charge
interest from day one of your purchases. However, certain cards may give a grace period and not charge interest if you repay the balance in full each month by the due date.

9) Fees - Most low rate credit cards will offer reduced or even no annual fees. Choose the one that does not add to your debt burden by charging hefty annual fees.

If you consider applying for low rate credit cards, there are a variety of websites online that offer comparisons of various low APR credit cards available in the market, and can be tremendously helpful in your search for low rate credit cards.

Chaste Women Smoking to Drug Sexual Desire

Posted in Medical Hall on April 27th, 2008

Good girls don’t, or do they?

Imagine yourself as a lonely and confused little girl. The church, mosque or temple, your mother, father, grandmother, and other family members will stop loving you if you do “that bad thing with boys”. You have been beaten many times when your eyes wandered to the opposite sex. Maybe you have even had the double misfortune of your eyes wandering to the same sex. Your brother beats you when you do anything but obey the commands given by your family. Or maybe your father has had enough and left for a “wanton woman” who is “evil” and does “those bad things” for men. She is solely responsible for your mother’s poverty because she commits “these acts against God”. Or perhaps you have been told that AIDS is caused by sex. Mysteriously. It has nothing to do with the exchange of bodily fluids and everything to do with punishment from God. And to top it all, Eve was bad and ate the poisoned apple; God punished her by giving her pain for evermore.

Fast forward some years… You are no longer a confused little girl. You are an adult with that little girl’s beliefs, firmly wedged in your mind. And a normal body.

Every time you see someone attractive, you feel dirty, bad, shameful. Every time you catch the bodily aroma of someone attractive, you feel out of control. You wonder why you cannot concentrate. Your body starts to weaken and shake, you feel like you are going to explode and are convinced it’s a sign of madness. You must be mad, evil, unholy. Someone attractive talks to you and you blush, you weaken, you hate yourself, you are bad, very bad. You reach for a cigarette. You light up. You inhale. The drug hits your bloodstream. Temporary relief from this madness. You are in control again. God loves you. Your mother loves you. Your friends love you.

The effects of this savior drug start to wane, your circulation is being felt in those shameful parts that you must not touch. You are beginning to get those evil thoughts again. You reach for another cigarette. You light up. You inhale. The drug reaches that bad part of your body that must never be spoken about. It is now forgotten. You are good again. God loves you. Your mother loves you. Your friends love you.

This horror story is the daily life of real women that come to me for help. They think that I can brainwash them into submission and they will leave my clinic after one session and no longer smoke. They forget that their body is still normal. With normal human bodily requirements that are genetically hard-wired into every human being.

More women than you can ever imagine drug their sexual desires away. The most popular drug for this is legal and very deadly. It is available 24 hours a day and users can get their fix at many outlets. Unfortunately cigarettes kill more than sexual desire. The sad truth is that these women would rather die than have sex.

There is treatment available. Sadly, it takes time, but time worth investing. There is light at the end of this dark and lonely tunnel. The good news is that if the lady persists with the therapy, she can find fulfilling relationships and break free from cigarette addiction. She may even find true love.
