Real Life Challenges of “Deal or No Deal” in Sales

Posted in Selling Strategies on June 28th, 2008

The popular television program, “Deal or No Deal” probably frustrates you like it does me. What is wrong with those people on the program? Take the DEAL! These are the words I shout from my home. It’s also the words I secretly shout in my head to clients when I’m selling to them.

It would be great if life were that clear in sales. Salespeople are better off with clear answers from prospects and customers. When salespeople don’t get a definitive answer, they pin their hopes on wishes and dreams. These hopes and dreams are later listed on prospect sheets that never become deals. We should be saying, deal or no deal to our prospects and eliminate the half truths.

When a prospect doesn’t say YES, the sales time table extends. This time extension creates a real challenge for the salesperson. Each time the deal is extended, the chance of getting the deal is reduced. If the salesperson doesn’t have a follow-up system, they will lose track of the opportunity and it will fade away.

Motivating Buyers To Make Deals

What is often odd about the decision process is that buyers are just as motivated as salespeople to make a decision of deal or no deal. Ironically, the buyer is often looking to the salesperson for assistance in making a decision. Unfortunately, many salespeople don’t get this truth. If a salesperson decides not to extend the opportunity and forces the question of deal or no deal, they often get the deal.

Everybody wins when a decision is made by the buyer. If the buyer accepts the deal, you don’t get stuck in limbo. If the buyer says “No Deal”, the salesperson has two choices. One option is to move on to the next deal and don’t look back. The other option is to put the buyer in a “Not Now” mode and remain in contact with them until the buyer is ready. In each case everyone is better off and time is not wasted by not making a decision.

Hurricane Photos and Photography

Posted in Photography Info on June 28th, 2008

One of the most popular things in photography is taking pictures of storm clouds and this is why we have tornado chasers and why so many people refuse to effectuate during hurricanes. Often these pictures are actually worth something to the news media but it is hard to get the news media the pictures you have taken because the phone lines are out and there’s no way to fax them or to send them by E-mail.

However, such pictures of large category hurricanes are all valuable and some people will risk life and limb to take them. Storm chasers are nothing new and neither are surfers who think they can ride out the big storm surge wave from the hurricane. But trying to take a photograph during a large category four hurricane is enough to blow you away and it is hard to hold onto the camera when you need to hold onto a local tree as you are sticking out like a flag on a flagpole.

For those brave enough to weather the storm and venture outside of the hurricane party in order to get a perfect shot of the hurricane, they know what they risk with each picture they take. As you surf around the Internet you will see pictures of hurricanes and the photographers that took them.

Some consider them very brave men others consider them fools. Nevertheless they are all probably adrenaline junkies and they do it not only for the sport, but also to prove that they weathered the storm. Consider all this in 2006.

Garden Tables Aren’t Just Decoration

Posted in Gardening Parlor on June 24th, 2008

In order to enjoy your time outdoor, you may have considered garden tables or other patio furniture. In today’s marketplace there are many different options available to suit varying tastes and needs.

Almost every major furniture designer these days has come up with a series of outdoor furniture and you can find garden tables that range in price from moderate to outrageous. The thing that isn’t always as easy to find is the set, that actually appeals to your families needs and tastes. The sad truth is that in today’s market place, most furniture sets are designed for families of four. This leaves little room for larger families or for guests.

If you have more than two children or a large group of friends and family that you spend time with and share meals with quite often, then perhaps you would be wise in limiting your search to larger sets, or purchasing several inexpensive smaller sets of garden tables and scattering them across your yard or patio. This will allow several ‘zones’ where people can talk more intimately than at larger tables, kids can congregate and play games, and or various groups can have their own sense of privacy even among a large group of people.

Garden tables are more than a fashion accessory for our yards these days. We’ve learned that our yard is an extension of our home and we want to be able to enjoy that space as well as we enjoy the interiors of our homes, especially with the premium price that land commands in this day and age. Choose furniture for your lawn and garden that you not only enjoy the look of but that you also find comfortable. You will probably have this furniture for quite a while so it makes sense to make a substantial investment in the furniture that you choose.

Vodafone pulls out of Tiscali Auction

Posted in Better Technology, Consumer Issues, Online Telecommunication Resources on June 23rd, 2008

As most subscribers are aware of, Tiscali, the prominent UK broadband provider, is being auctioned off. The Milan-based Corporation possesses service control centres across the United Kingdom and Italy, reaching out to a wide expanse of subscribers.

Auctioning of a major corporation in the industry prompted responses from various broadband providers, many of which are UK-based, carrying interest in their thriving operations. The UK boasts a flourishing communications industry, one which has recent exhibited quite advanced progression over the past few years, especially in its broadband sector.

Vodafone had earlier shown substantial interest in the purchase of Tiscali operations. The gaining of such an esteemed broadband operations association served to further advance their service, which is especially lacking in the United Kingdom. Vodafone expressed interest in acquiring both of Tiscali’s markets, in Italy and the UK.

Vodafone failed to execute on their interest, withdrawing due to an insubstantial disagreement regarding Tiscali’s valuation. Though Vodafone has withdrawn from the auction, Vodafone’s rationale for the purchase of Tiscali still remains. The broadband operator plans to trial an expansion in the industry, providing more than mobile broadband. The first of these add-ons involve the installation of a fixed-line internet network, a stage which could be unnecessary with the purchase of Tiscali.

Identify the First Signs of Having Your Hair Fall Out

Posted in Health Issues on June 21st, 2008

The correct phrase for male pattern baldness is alopecia. The very most typical type of hair loss is male pattern baldness and hits typically a third of blokes and females. This kind of baldness is generally permanent.

Permanent hair loss comes in 3 forms. Male pattern baldness might often happen in the particularly early stages of a blokes life, with hair loss starting to begin as quickly as twenty one years. The usual first signs will often include loss of hair follicles around the top part of the head and of course at the forehead. The result can often be partial or full total baldness.

Female pattern baldness is nearly similar to male pattern baldness resulting in permanent hair loss and baldness. This sort of hair loss and baldness is regularly developed after a mother gives birth to a child. The chemical imbalance generates hair loss although they do not generally experience full baldness.

The last kind of forever hair loss is through Cicatricial. This appears when some inflammation in the scalp starts scarring of the scalp and the hair follicles fall out permanently. The gentleman might often lose hair folicles in different parts of the scalp, or even spread all over the scalp.

With permanent hair loss the fantastic solution for abounding men and women will probably be to get advice from a hair regrowth clinic in order to gain back hair growth. Check out the latest hair loss treatments at Advanced Hair Studio.

Genetically Modified Plants Could Become Sentinels for the Military

Posted in Politics News on June 20th, 2008

As concerns grow over the threat of bioterrorism and weapons of mass destruction, Penn State University genetic researchers are working on an early warning system — the figurative canary in the mineshaft — that could be as unobtrusive and ubiquitous as plants in a landscape. This “canary” is a specially engineered plant or group of plants designed to detect and signal the presence of many harmful chemical or biological agents.

In theory, soldiers could be equipped with a hand-held electronic device. When pointed at a native plant, the readings on the device would indicate the plant was exposed to nerve gas some time in the last several hours or several days. At present such a device does not exist.

To develop such technology, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has awarded Penn State University a 3 year, $3.5 million grant to lay groundwork for genetically engineered plants that can detect the presence of harmful nerve agents. Plants are a suitable candidate because they are rooted to their environment, and cannot move out of a given area like an insect or other animal. They can therefore become a short-term history book of their environment over the last several days. Just as a plant will wilt without water, or become lighter green with less nitrogen, a plant that is genetically altered to become sensitive to a nerve agent or other chemical compounds poisonous to humans would retain certain effects of its exposure.

Plants and animals detect and respond to a range of things — including microbes, insects, chemicals and hormones — via cellular proteins. These proteins, called receptor-like kinases (RLKs), have a sensing domain outside the cell membrane that binds molecules in the environment. This binding sends a signal inside the cell to the response domain, known as the kinase, which then turns on genes that trigger a response.
One of the plants being studied at Penn State is Arabidopsis, a small flowering plant from the mustard family that grows around the world and is widely used as a model organism in plant biology.

Even detection of something such as explosives in the soil is under research. A military commander, with the proper electronic device, could receive a readout from a plant in his locale that could indicate the presence of explosives nearby. Of course, such genetically modified plants would have to be planted into the environment ahead of time, which may pose its own set of problems.

Jack Schultz, a chemical ecologist and professor of entomology in the College of Agricultural Sciences, indicates in the Penn State extension website that their experiments may eventually aid the agricultural community as well. One example given was that a sensor could be mounted on the front of a farm tractor traveling across a field when operating a pesticide sprayer. The sensor could detect the presence of a certain weed or insect pest and turn the sprayer on or off or add different chemical components for a given section of the field, and thus reduce the total volume of pesticides used.

What Plans Do Your Clients Have?

Posted in Marketing Parlor on June 19th, 2008

* What is their business vision?

* What are their 3-5 key goals over the next 3 years?

* Where do they want to take their businesses? Grow and expand? Sell? Merge? Consolidate?

AND

Why should you know and care?

Here are 3 reasons

Your current clients offer future opportunities

You’ve already done business with them. They know you and you know them. There might be potential for further business - if not now, then perhaps over the next 1-3 years. If you know their plans and know what challenges, opportunities and aspirations they have you can offer to help them develop those plans and achieve their future objectives.

This may be in the form of actual business or it could simply be by connecting them with other suppliers, mentors or consultants that can help them. If you put their needs first under the “pay it forward” principle you are more likely to be the one they call when then have a need that you can specifically help with within your speciality.

“If you know what they need, you can plant the seed”

Foresight is Fore planned

If, for example you are an HR consultant and you know that one of your key clients has plans to double their workforce as a result of increased production due to the opening of a new facility, you can help them by preplanning the whole recruitment, selection, induction and training process. The benefit to them is that they have the right people with the right skills and knowledge, correctly inducted and trained in place in good time for the launch.

“Consult in advance and be part of the dance”

Your pipeline will have a steady flow

One of the constant challenges you face as a consultant is that of a steady pipeline of “ideal” business. By working with your current clients to plan their next 1-3 years you can potentially increase the flow of work into your consultancy.

Imagine you are an IT implementation Consultant and you know that within the next 12 months your number one client will be implementing a new PC software rollout, changing the way they manage their online sales and are moving premises, you could potentially have 1, 2 or 3 pieces of work or 1 big integration project.

By working with your current ideal clients you can help them plan and manage their implementation and your pipeline too.

“A steady flow will help you grow”

Gaining new clients is always a key activity for consultants and optimising the relationship you have with your current clients is also important.

Keep in touch, meet with key people at various levels within the organisation, and research your clients market and trends. Do this when you have work with them and when you don’t. They will trust you more and hopefully share more when they know you have their longer term interests at heart and are not just out for the short term buck!

Dog Care and Nutrition: How to Raise a Healthy Dog

Posted in Pets and Other Animals on June 19th, 2008

Your dog depends on you for all his nutritional requirements. Proper nutrition is essential for a healthy pet to help resist disease and illness, to maintain a lean, healthy weight, and to give your furry friend a shiny coat.

Each dog is different, and your dog’s lifestyle (active or sedentary? young or old? hunting dog? racing dog? lap dog? healthy? pregnant?) is the main factor in determining his individual nutritional requirements.

When to feed your dog is an important first question. Puppies need lots of calories every day because they are growing so quickly. It’s best to feed puppies small meals several times a day at first. Most adult dogs only need to eat once a day to sustain their energy and nutrient levels. If you work all day and no one is home with your dog, it’s probably best to feed him in the evening, so you’ll be able to let him out after he eats. But a morning feeding schedule is fine if someone is home with your dog during the day.
Whatever time of day you choose to feed your dog, there are six basic nutrients that he must eat every day to balance his particular needs: water, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, and vitamins.

Water is key. Your new best friend needs plenty of fresh water daily…it is one of the most important things you can provide your dog. While a dog can go without food for a while, he will quickly dehydrate without water. This is especially important during the summer months when your dog is outside in the heat. We can’t stress enough how important it is to ALWAYS have a fresh bowl of water available for your dog. (A medium size dogs requires about two quarts of water each day!)
If your dog is a normal, active, healthy dog, he only needs a small amount of protein daily. However, young and active dogs need more protein for growth, and older active dogs need more protein as well. The proteins you feed your dog need to come from an animal source.

Carbohydrates help provide your dog with energy, as well as help keep the intestines functioning properly. Most commercial dog foods use corn as their source of carbohydrates. As important as carbs are, however, they should make up no more than about 50% of Fido’s diet.

Fats are an essential part of your dog’s diet, but they need to be properly balanced with other nutrients. If you’re feeding your dog the proper amount of a good, commercial dog food, he should be getting the right amount of fat in his diet.

Your dog doesn’t really need a lot of minerals. As long as you feed him a complete, balanced diet, there is no need to supplement with minerals. Most commercial dog foods will provide him with all the minerals he needs.

Dogs require the same vitamins from their food as you do, except for Vitamin C (dogs are able to make their own Vitamin C). Vitamins that are water soluble (such as the B vitamins) need to be replenished every day. Fat-soluble vitamins (like A, E, K, and D) stay in your dog’s system longer. It’s important that your dog maintain a healthy diet to keep him from developing serious health problems.

For more specific information and recommendations on your particular dog’s nutritional needs, be sure to talk with his veterinarian.
